Research and interactive mapping of the performing arts in Veneto
Starting from a reflection on current forms of mapping cultural and creative productions and from an analysis of existing ‘best practice’ cases on the national territory, the study intends to contribute to the construction of an observatory on performing arts in Veneto.
The first aim of the project is to give visibility to those dynamics of cultural work that often escape official statistical analyses and the consequent definition of public policies for the cultural sector. In order to achieve these objectives , the study integrates quantitative analysis and georeferencing data with a qualitative dimension of research on the territory and adopts a bottom-up logic that envisaged the involvement of various subjects, organisations and operators active in the sector.
The study continues with a reflection on the relationship between data collected by cultural observatories and their actual use in policy-making processes. Given the numerous examples of international and national cultural observatories, in Italy mainly of a regional nature, two case studies – the regional observatories of Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont – identified as good practices in the national panorama are analysed. The analysis of the two observatories makes it possible to identify a series of minimum requirements and potential recommendations for the development of the performing arts observatory that the Veneto Region has formally established with Regional Law 17 of 2019 but which has yet to be implemented.

The mapping of the performing arts ecosystem in the Veneto Region has been made available and can be consulted online on a digital platform with interactive tables and searchable data.
Conceived with a view to exploring the data, it therefore allows the user, through filters and interactive selections, to configure their own specific searches, not limiting themselves to the presentation of our analyses.
The research is conducted by Andrea Santini, Postdoc Research Fellow at the Department of Management and member of the Aiku – Arte Cultura Impresa centre, with the supervision of Professor Fabrizio Panozzo and Professor Maria Lusiani.
