Mimesis

When an artist sets foot in the company something is triggered. The company rediscovers history and uniqueness, tells them, innovates its image and makes culture. That new products could be born from the interaction between managers and artists, however, was not (yet) expected.

Conveying artistic images of business

The project “Mimesis – transmitting artistic images of business” funded by the Veneto Region (Value Directive) and directed by Fabrizio Panozzo, professor of Management at Ca’ Foscari, combined the craftsmanship of artisans with the creativity of artists in five Art & Business experiments and five product innovations.

  • TONO, the world’s first ceramic vibrational bluetooth speaker. A designer audio speaker made of stoneware and wood with an integrated tablet holder. The vibrations engage the object, which in turn transmits them to the surface where it rests. Tables and shelves thus become in turn harmonic speakers creating a rich and diffuse sound. A work born from the mastery of the ceramists of Linea Sette combined with the creativity of Andrea Santini, artist and researcher of audiovisual interaction.
  • TXT DIGITAL LOOM, born at the Renata Bonfanti textile workshop in Mussolente (Vicenza), the TXT ‘digital loom’ is a spool console that produces audiovisual textures. The project originated with Tam Teatromusica, conceived and realised by Alessandro Martinello and Luca Scapellato, with the participation of musician Kole Laca.
  • ‘LAPIX’, on the other hand, is the interactive device conceived and created for the Stamperia D’Arte Busato company in Vicenza, with the participation of the engraving artists who collaborate with the printworks. The idea in this case was ‘engraving with light’: a lithographic stone resonates, responding to the graphic sign, captured by a sensitive pen and returned by the luminous stroke of a video projection.
  • GUESTBIT, on the other hand, is an innovative guest book for the hotel company Le Nove Hotel. In an area where ceramics is a tradition, a shared ceramic decoration was created: the facial features of the participants become the trace along which the decoration develops. Then, thanks to a special motion sensor, the work becomes interactive: the public’s gestures allow them to select or modify the images that appear on the plate.
  • Bevilacqua Tessuti and Angelo Orsoni srl are carrying out other projects with the collaboration of the We Exhibit and D20 Art Lab collectives.

In all these cases, the challenge was to create an innovative form of corporate storytelling that could tell and represent everything the artists came into contact with, i.e.: history, experience, relationships, tools and services.

Mimesis, a project coordinated by Adecco Formazione, was supported by the V.A.L.O.R.E. Directive ‘Interventi per il passaggio generazionale e per la valorizzazione del capitale aziendale’ (DGR 1285 of 2016) with which the Veneto Region financed ‘tailor-made’ projects aimed at enhancing the corporate experience by telling the story of the company itself and its human and intellectual capital, with a view to the transfer of knowledge and skills and the generational handover.
